Day 7: 5 Oct 2001, Lake Nakuru National Park > Masai Mara National Reserve

We should leave to Masai Mara early this morning. However, I requested to revisit the lakeside again since the morning sunlight is very good to capture the postures of flamingos. We met Mary again and it was the last time we talked to each other in this trip. I lost this only and the last chance to take picture with them even though we could leave the vehicle this time actually!

It was a very long drive to Masai Mara. According to Gabriel, the distance was 260 km from Nakuru to Masai, which was shorter than that of Samburu to Nakuru (350 km). However, we left at around 10:00 a.m. but arrived Masai camping site at around 4:30 p.m.!

[The delay might due to the tire broken on the road to Masai. As Gabriel was old, a driver of another "Planet" car stopped to assist him in changing a new tire. We certainly got off the car to reduce the weight of the vehicle. We were bored but took a photo of the incident for memory. We did not know that Gabriel was so nervous about this action. He feared that we would report to the office and he would lose this job. We explained that we were for memory only and hope it would relax him. In fact, it should be very tough to our car given that the roads we had passed were so harsh.]

Even arriving late in Masai Mara, we still started our game drive at around 5:00 p.m. For such a short game drive, no special animals or animals behaviours were seen. The weather was bad to take photo in this late afternoon. The cloudy weather after short rainning de-motivate us to search for animals but to go back to camping site. At least, we had four nights in Masai Mara, one of the best national parks in the world to see wild life, to see and take pictures of the wild.
